If the featured excursions don’t meet your needs, I’ll help you design your own excursion – a trip just for your party.

> Featured Excursion for April:
Lake Bolsena to Orvieto

On the border between Lazio and Umbria lie classic rolling farmlands with patches of orchard and vineyard, and lush hills that enclose beautiful Lake Bolsena – the largest volcanic lake in Europe. The Roman Via Cassia headed through here on its way to Florence; even earlier there were precocious Etruscan cities with paved streets, palaces, temples and marvelous works of art. In medieval times the “Miracle of Bolsena” led to the building of Italy’s most famous gothic cathedral at Orvieto. Our walk will include scenic Civita di Bagnoregio, perched on a crumbling bluff above a wildly eroded lanscape.

Seven days, six nights, with stays at Montefiascone and Orvieto (both famous for wine), and Bolsena.

> Featured Excursion for May:
Cori and the Lepini Mountains

From the Rome-Naples train you can’t miss the striking limestone formations of the Lepini Mountains to the east. Intriguing Norba – a Roman ghost town – perches on the edge of a precipice; bustling Cori conserves a host of ancient walls and temples. A Roman road through vineyards and olive groves passes the breathtaking oasis of Ninfa – a romantic garden set within crumbling medieval ruins. At Sermoneta, old houses of dazzling white stone huddle below the massive bulk of the Caetani castle. Our trail winds through the foothills of these starkly beautiful mountains; along the way we’ll pause at the graceful 12th-century abbey of Valvisciolo.

Seven days, six nights, with stays at Cori and Sermoneta, and a side trip to historic Terracina on the Mediterranean coast.
