The Basics

Springtime finds me in the idyllic countryside near Rome, exploring and leading walks. Meet me there to embark on a cultural and sensory adventure: little-known paths, alluring ruins, lively towns, art, delicious food, local wines. Lodging with graceful, old-world ambiance.

Your party can be from one to six. I'll organize a trip just for you:

choose one of the excursions
duration is flexible (6 days/5 nights typical)
level of difficulty is flexible – normal is 5-8 rather hilly miles per day with knapsack for lunch, jacket, etc. (baggage is shuttled)
lodging: B&Bs, restored monasteries, village inns – always clean and comfy, most with historic ambiance.  Budget or upscale options available in many locations.
season: March 10 – June 10, subject to availability (other dates by request)

If you'd prefer to join a group, I occasionally offer open group excursions (see Ghosts of the Via Appia).

"…gives ‘off the beaten track’ a whole new meaning… Dave knows places that archaeologists apparently have no knowledge of… unforgettable."

I’m always available for advice or assistance. I’ll help plan the trip you want and confirm the cost, then meet you in Rome. A short train ride into the county will begin our excursion.

If you’d like tips on Rome (flights, sights, lodging) or anything else, please ask. For best availability, book early: a $300 deposit will hold your dates (refundable until a month before the trip).
