Featured Excursion: Cori and the Lepini Mountains
Cori

From the Rome-Naples train you can’t miss the striking limestone formations of the Lepini Mountains to the east, with colorful villages clustered on hilltops and cliffs. Here many early peoples vied for dominance – roads and fortified towns from the pre-Roman era are still evident. The Romans, too, left their mark, followed by medieval abbey and castle builders, and then the Renaissance nobility. Close to Rome but well off the beaten track, it’s a region worth visiting for both natural beauty and abundant historical interest.
